The 2,500-seat Mangin-Beaulieu sports complex includes, in addition to the main area for handball and volleyball, annexes for tennis, fencing, gymnastics, table tennis and a synthetic court for soccer and rugby.
Over the years, there have been various interventions to the lighting system and after 30 years of overlapping and now obsolete appliances, maintenance of the system had become difficult to manage. In addition, lighting levels did not meet the requirements for play required by the regulations of the different sports or for the visual comfort for spectators.
The municipality of Nantes commissioned the renovation of the lighting system with objective of illuminating the stands and playing field, but also offering pre-match lighting entertainment. ALBDO design studio was awarded the project and consulted with PERFORMANCE iN LIGHTING in order to address the primary need manage dynamic lighting scenarios.
34 SQUARE PRO CG DMX 1,000 W floodlights were used with different optics and an IRC (chromatic performance index) of 90 suitable for television footage.
The benefits were evident from the start: less installed power, reduced consumption, reduced maintenance, better visual comfort and much higher lighting levels. As a final result, the renovated lighting system guarantees 1,000 lux for volleyball, 1,200 lux for handball and is able to respond to all types of sports practice: leisure, professional training and regional competitions.
With all projectors controlled with DMX protocol, fixed and pre-programmed lighting scenarios can be managed (that can be activated in a simple and intuitive way using a control console to recall the 25 lighting preconfigured scenarios) and at the same time produce dynamic and choreographic effects.
