THE WORLD OF LEONARDO

Milaan - Italië

“Leonardo3 - The World of Leonardo”

Performance in Lighting lights up Leonardo’s Flying Machine.

Performance in Lighting is once again the protagonist of “Leonardo3 – The World of Leonardo,” in Piazza della Scala, Milan. The exhibition brings to life interactive machines, physical models, manuscripts and drawings born of the Renaissance genius of Leonardo Da Vinci. After the Great Kite, the Aerial Screw, the Mechanical Bat and the Mechanical Dragonfly, exhibited works now include the Flying Machine with a wing span of eight metres, which was secretly built by Leonardo behind the current Palazzo Reale in Milan. Lighting for this work is designed by Performance in Lighting with an installation that has been created with the 4Seasons systems. It was studied by the Company’s Project Design Department to achieve ideal lighting, considering the delicacy of the work and the need to use mobile devices to preserve the architectural heritage. The flexible solutions that were chosen enabled the lighting system to harmoniously become part of an existing project. In the “World of Leonardo,” the flexibility of 4Seasons has allowed to create an “alternative” installation inside the museum by focusing the light beam from the bottom upwards on the Flying Machine that is suspended at a height of about three metres. Considering the remarkable success made with both the public and critics, Massimiliano Lisa from Leonardo3, organiser of the exhibition, said: “Since the age of Leonardo, light has been a vital factor for art. The know-how of Performance in Lighting was the best we could find and choose. Their solutions make the most of the work without altering it, and are ideal to highlight the details. The intervention of Performance in Lighting was especially essential to analyse and seek the best lighting solution for the objectives of the exhibition.”
