The new multifunctional arena is situated in Schierke, Germany, a resort in the Harz mountains, close to the highest North German “Brocken” summit. This magnificent mountain landscape is the site of the “Schierker Feuerstein Arena”.
The modern stadium replaces the old ice skating rink with its long tradition. It is now a venue for a mixture of sports and cultural events. The stadium, which has capacity for up to 4,900 visitors, is situated along the Kalte Bode river and blends in well with the landscape of this climatic health resort at an altitude of 600 metres.
The light and airy roof is made of fibreglass membrane, measures approximately 2,400 square metres and spans the entire multifunctional arena, supported at only two strategic points.
Thanks to this innovative solution designed by architecture firm GRAFT ©, the roof is so constructed that it does not obstruct views of the slopes of the Oberharz and the Schierker sky.
The technical lighting requirements were challenging: a multifunctional floodlight for the grounds surrounding the multifunctional arena. This product was required to have different levels of light intensity and an adjustable beam spread without glare, of course, and based on energy-efficient LED modules.
PERFROMANCE iN LIGHTING has developed the GUELL range of floodlights which can be used for both accent lighting as well as basic lighting. The GUELL 4 floodlight, which has a colour temperature of 4000 K and a symmetric beam, was installed in the Feuerstein Arena. In this way we achieved intensive but homogeneous lighting.
The light atmosphere and the exterior appearance of the multifunctional arena blend in well with the distinctive natural landscape and the natural stone terrace of Harz granite.
